Our Mission
The purpose of the Chicago Dermatological Society is to educate its members and guests (medical residents and students) in dermatology and its subspecialties and to promote:
- Excellence in patient care
- Adherence to a high level of ethical conduct and professionalism
- Dermatology related research
- A spirit of community among its members
- Public interest relating to dermatology
Education
- The next monthly conference will take place on October 13 at Northwestern University in Chicago. The guest speaker is Gerald Lazarus, MD, chief of dermatology at Johns Hopkins University. Meeting details will be posted later this summer.

July 14, 2010 -- Sidney Barsky, M.D., Honored for Contribution to Dermatology. The Dermatology Foundation (DF) Board of Directors recently recognized the profound impact Dr. Sidney Barsky, M.D. has had on the specialty of dermatology at their recent annual membership meeting in Miami. The DF’s prestigious Clark W. Finnerud Award was presented to Dr. Barsky and recognizes a dermatologist whose volunteer service as a part-time teacher and a practitioner embodies the highest ideals of the specialty, and serves as an example for generations to come. June 7, 2010 -- It is with great sadness that we report CDS Past-president Sylvia Griem, MD, has passed away. She had a distinguished career as a dermatologist and as an educator. Her daughter, Melanie, is a current member of the Chicago Dermatological Society. Click here to read her obituary in the Chicago Tribune.
June 1, 2010 -- The Chicago Psoriasis Walk, starting at Hutchinson Field in Grant Park at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, June 13, is a free family-friendly event featuring entertainment, information about treatment, and refreshments and goody bags for all participants. Register online at PsoriasisWalk.org. Call 877-WALK-PCN (877-925-5726) or email walk@psoriasis-cure-now.org for more information. The Chicago Psoriasis Walk will raise money for Psoriasis Cure Now's efforts to increase research funding for psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis and increase patients' access to treatment. It is a great way to raise awareness and show support for people with psoriasis. Psoriasis Cure Now is a 5-year-old nonprofit organization that serves patients with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis and works to increase funding to find a cure.
